Odisha braces for rain and gusty winds amid hot weather

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Odisha in the coming days amidst hot and humid conditions. According to Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts by Sunday, with intensifying showers predicted thereafter.

Temperatures are anticipated to decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius across many parts of the state after two days. Over the next 24 hours, rain and thundershowers are likely in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and coastal areas such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph in parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nabarangpur during this period.

Additionally, isolated heat wave conditions may persist in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Nuapada districts over the next 24 hours.
