Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 2: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced a two-day holiday for the Rath Yatra festival, coinciding this year with Netra Utsav and Nabajaubana of the deities on July 7. The chariots will be pulled a short distance on July 7 and resume the next day, following the tradition observed since the 1971 Rath Yatra.

The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by the CM at Puri Town Hall, where preparations for the festival were reviewed. Majhi emphasized the festival’s cultural significance and declared the holiday to allow citizens to fully participate in the festivities.

Acknowledging the festival’s importance, Majhi stressed the meticulous performance of rituals, echoing the traditions of the historic 1971 celebration. He called for seamless coordination among officials, including the Puri District Collector, Superintendents of Police, and senior administrative officers, to ensure a successful event.

Highlighting his personal devotion, the Chief Minister expressed reverence for Lord Jagannath, stating that tribals are the original servants of the deity. He underscored Jagannath’s role as the cultural identity of Odia people and anticipated the festival’s attraction for devotees nationwide.

In conclusion, Majhi urged cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the Rath Yatra’s smooth and grand success.
