Odisha CM focuses on cultural heritage and Odia language promotion

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 4: After assuming office at Loka Seva Bhawan, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday directed that Odia language be used in all government official work. Addressing reporters, he emphasized a dual focus on cultural and material development, stressing the promotion and preservation of Odia ‘Asmita’ (identity).

Majhi announced plans to reconstitute the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Lalit Kala Akademi, aiming to enhance their capabilities. He also outlined efforts to streamline the Odissi Gabesana Kendra for improved efficiency and promote quality research on Odia ‘Asmita’. Initiatives to expand the library movement and cultivate reading habits among the public were also highlighted.

The Chief Minister further detailed the establishment of a Translation Academy to boost Odia language and literature, emphasizing the integration of modern technology for language development. Plans include setting up an Odia Asmita Bhawan and forming a Language Commission, with a potential amendment of the Odisha Official Language Act to ensure widespread use of Odia in government offices.

Majhi underscored the reconstitution of the Odia Bhasha Pratisthan and the establishment of Samanwita Sanskruti Bhawan in every district to promote local art and culture. He committed to prioritizing the appointment of Odia teachers in high schools statewide and expediting the Paika Academy and Memorial project in Barunei. Heritage site preservation across the state was also identified as a key governmental focus.

The CM concluded by expressing a commitment to soliciting public feedback on strategies to further enhance and safeguard Odia ‘Asmita’.
