Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 5: The government doctor who disappeared from his official residence in Malkangiri, Odisha on June 1, has been located in Mysuru, Karnataka. Amlan Bhoi, originally from Kandhamal, was serving at the Kalimela Community Health Centre (CHC) since January.

During a press briefing, Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhawani clarified that the doctor had not been abducted. “He was found in good health in Karnataka, and efforts are underway to bring him back,” he stated.
The sequence of events leading to his disappearance remains unclear. A five-member police team has been dispatched to Mysuru to facilitate his return, according to sources.

Initially, suspicions arose regarding the involvement of Left-wing extremists, following the discovery of a Maoist poster at the doctor’s quarters. However, the police had dismissed this theory. While the poster raised demands such as the transfer of old staff at Kalimela CHC and the appointment of specialists, it did not implicate the doctor in any wrongdoing.

There were also reports suggesting a confrontation between Bhoi and the relatives of a deceased female patient at Kalimela CHC on May 31, regarding the requirement for a postmortem examination. This led to speculation that they may have been involved in his disappearance.

Concerned for his safety, Bhoi’s family has appealed to the Kandhamal collector and SP for his safe return.
