Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 2: The Odisha government has initiated steps to increase pensions and allowances for eligible beneficiaries across various schemes in the state. Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Minister Nityananda Gond informed reporters that efforts are underway to raise pensions for old age, widows, and persons with disabilities.

The proposed increase aims to raise the pension amount to Rs 3,000, pending final approval following consultations with the Finance Department.

Minister Gond emphasized that discussions regarding budgetary allocations are ongoing with the Finance Department to facilitate the proposed adjustments.

Under the Madhubabu Pension Scheme, the state government supports beneficiaries who do not receive National Social Security benefits. Previously, in February, the pension amount was raised by Rs 500, bringing it to Rs 1,000 for beneficiaries.

Minister Gond, who also oversees the School and Mass Education department, revealed plans to reopen schools that were closed during the previous BJD regime. He cited erroneous reports and neglected demands from local communities, where students faced long commutes to attend school, as reasons for the closures.
