Odisha government pledges swift execution of bhubaneswar metro project

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 25: The Odisha government affirmed its commitment to the prompt implementation of the Bhubaneswar metro rail project on Tuesday, aimed at easing persistent traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra stated that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure timely completion of the project.
Emphasizing that the BJP-led government is dedicated to resolving urban traffic issues, Minister Mohapatra assured that support from the Union government would be sought as required, following a review of the State Budget.

“We have the full backing of the BJP-led double-engine government to expedite the metro project in Odisha,” Mohapatra affirmed, adding that detailed discussions on commencing project work during the upcoming rainy season are underway.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for Odisha, Mohapatra expressed confidence in receiving necessary assistance from the Centre for the smooth and efficient implementation of this ambitious infrastructure endeavor.

The metro project, which aims to connect Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar to Trisulia in Cuttack in its initial phase, is slated for completion within the next four years at an estimated investment of Rs 6,255 crore. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was approved by the state government on October 7, 2023, with the foundation stone laid by former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 1.
