Odisha prepares for thunderstorms, heavy rain in multiple districts

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 18: The Odisha capital witnessed thunderstorms, lightning, and rain for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, with a yellow warning issued for four districts: Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Ganjam.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph are expected in several districts till 8:30 am on Wednesday. These districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.

Similar weather warnings have been issued for the subsequent 24 hours in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.

On Thursday, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty windspeeds are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh districts. Heavy rainfall is expected in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi districts.

Further predictions indicate heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore on June 21, and in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh on June 22. Though no weather warnings are forecasted beyond these dates, light to moderate rain may persist in some areas of the state over the following two days.

Additionally, hot and humid weather conditions are expected in select places across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts until June 20.
