Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 29: Narendra Behera, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Mohana block in Gajapati district, Odisha, has mandated that all school teachers must wear helmets while riding two-wheelers. Failure to comply will result in strict actions, including the withholding of their monthly salary.

In a recent directive sent to all government school principals, Behera emphasized that wearing a helmet is mandatory for both male and female teachers, even when riding for personal reasons unrelated to school. This decision follows an increase in road accident fatalities among teachers in the district, including a recent incident where a teacher lost his life due to not wearing a helmet.

Behera clarified to the media that the intention is not to penalize teachers but to raise awareness. He stressed the importance of teachers setting an example for their families and the community by prioritizing safety.

Teachers have welcomed the decision, recognizing the hazardous conditions of the hilly terrain and harsh weather they often navigate. “By wearing helmets, we ensure our safety and set a positive example for others,” commented one teacher to the media.
