Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 10: Following the rescue of a newborn from Jaleswar, police have detained two women, including an accredited social health activist (ASHA), in connection with the alleged abduction incident at Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital (FM MCH) in Balasore, Odisha.

According to sources, Anita Dandpat, wife of Purnachandra Dantapat from Kulhachada village in Baliapal block, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning due to labor pains. She delivered a baby boy on the same day.

Subsequently, Anita and her newborn were transferred to the mother and child care ward. On Sunday afternoon, while Anita and her newborn were alone in the ward as her family members went out to fetch water, a woman accompanied by an ASHA worker approached her. They requested the one-day-old baby for mandatory vaccination.

Anita complied and handed over her baby to the ASHA worker. However, when the woman failed to return after a prolonged absence, Anita’s family members confronted the ASHA worker, who did not provide a satisfactory response. Consequently, a complaint was lodged at the police outpost on the hospital campus, leading to the examination of CCTV footage revealing the woman taking the baby from the ward.
Subsequently, the police rescued the newborn from Jaleswar and detained both women for questioning.
