Bhubaneswar,(Reporterspen), May 22: Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi announced his resignation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday, sending his formal letter of resignation to party leader and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Panigrahi’s resignation letter stated, “I hereby resign from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal with immediate effect. I express my gratitude to you, sir, for allowing me the opportunity to serve the state, the people of Simulia-Khaira Assembly constituency, and the party.”

The BJD has nominated Subasini Sahu for the Simulia Assembly segment in the upcoming 2024 elections, a move that reportedly surprised and disappointed Panigrahi and his supporters. Following this announcement, Panigrahi began to distance himself from party affairs. Sources suggest that feeling disheartened, Panigrahi chose to sever his ties with the party.

In a video message, the former minister stated, “Today, I am resigning from the ruling party. I have been associated with the party for a considerable period, and I am thankful to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for providing me the opportunity to serve the people of Simulia.”
