Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 3: In a tragic incident at a Rangamatia-based apartment under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar, a person stabbed his father to death over a family dispute on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Anirudh Choudhury, is a professor at a Law College, while the deceased, Sunil Choudhury, was a retired officer of Nalco.

According to sources, an altercation broke out between Sunil and Anirudh early Wednesday morning. An enraged Anirudh stabbed Sunil impulsively during the altercation, resulting in Sunil’s death before reaching the hospital.

Upon receiving information, Mancheswar police promptly arrived at the scene, sent Sunil’s body for post-mortem, and detained Anirudh for interrogation.

Neighbors reported that Anirudh, despite his profession in law, acted out of rage during the dispute with his father, causing shock in the locality.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh stated, “Preliminary investigation suggests that Anirudh Choudhury was under financial stress, which led to depression. The altercation on Wednesday morning escalated when Anirudh demanded money from his father to repay his debts. When Sunil refused, Anirudh committed the act in front of his mother. We will continue our investigation to ascertain the motive behind the murder.”
