Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 27: Following the incident involving the alleged mistreatment of a woman at Chandbali police station, Bhadrak SP Varun Guntupalli took action on Thursday by transferring three police officers, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), to the district police headquarters.

The decision came after a viral video showed police officers purportedly dragging Mita Sethi (23) from Barua village out of the station and allegedly beating her with a plastic pipe.

Mita accused the officers of assaulting her, tearing her clothes, and manhandling her during the incident. Reports suggest the altercation occurred when Mita visited the station with her four-year-old child and 14-year-old sister-in-law to meet her husband, Sambhu, who was filing a complaint.

According to sources, the situation escalated after Mita threw a shoe case inside the station and allegedly behaved disrespectfully towards the personnel. This led to a confrontation during which Constable Rabi Sethi and ASI Nepal Saha reportedly forcibly removed Mita from the station, dragging her by her legs and arms. Allegedly, when Mita’s sister-in-law protested, she too was subjected to mistreatment.

Chandbali SDPO Kartik Chandra Mallick clarified that Mita and her husband are divorced, and she had come to collect alimony while he was at the station filing his complaint.
