Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 4: In a disturbing incident, a tribal woman in Jagatsinghpur district allegedly sold her newborn baby boy to a Telugu-speaking individual for Rs 1 lakh. Mamina Sarda, residing in Sankhud slum, reportedly gave birth to the baby at Atharabanki government hospital and immediately sold him the following day.

The issue surfaced when Manga, another woman who had initially planned to adopt the baby, accused Mamina of reneging on their agreement. Mamina had originally agreed to give the baby to Manga, who had supported her during pregnancy and promised financial assistance for her elder daughter’s future.
Instead, Mamina allegedly sold the infant to a man from Vizag, prompting a confrontation with Manga. Following the revelation, Mamina has reportedly gone into hiding.

Authorities have launched a special investigation, with the police forming a team to address the matter. The Child Welfare Committee is also poised to take rigorous action following their inquiry into the incident.
