Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 28: In a startling development, four police officers in Odisha have been suspended in connection with a ganja smuggling case on Friday.

The incident reportedly occurred in Angul district, where DIG Uma Shankar Dash took action against ASI Jitendra Samantsinghar, Constable Manoj Nayak, Constable Lingraj Muduli, and driver Ajit Sahoo from the Police Headquarters in Kishor Nagar police station.

Allegations surfaced indicating that traffickers frequently utilized roads in Angul district to smuggle marijuana from Boudh district. Previous accusations suggested that certain police officers near the border had accepted bribes to facilitate this illicit trade.

Accordingly, these officers allegedly allowed smugglers to pass through after receiving payments. Upon receiving information about these activities, DIG Uma Shankar Dash initiated surveillance and began gathering evidence against the accused. Subsequently, after accumulating sufficient proof, he decided to suspend the four officers.

DIG Dash clarified that the suspensions were based on the officers’ indirect involvement in the marijuana smuggling case. He emphasized that further actions would be taken following a thorough investigation into the matter.
