Odisha Police register 236 cases under new BNS

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 2: Since the enforcement of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on July 1, a total of 236 cases have been registered in Odisha, as reported by the state police. Out of 490 cases logged in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & System on Monday, 236 were specifically under BNS.

The first case under this new criminal law in Bhubaneswar was filed at Laxmisagar police station. According to DCP Prateek Singh, “The initial case under sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), and 109 (attempt to murder) of the new laws was registered at Laxmisagar police station. All other police stations have also commenced registering cases under the new statutes.”

IIC P Shyam Sundar Rao of Laxmisagar police station, who registered case No. 370/24, assigned SI G Saha to investigate. He elaborated, “The accused had been threatening Gouranga and attacked him with a blade on June 29. Following renewed threats on Monday, Gouranga decided to file an FIR. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against the accused under the new law.”

Four police stations in the city have already registered at least one case each under BNS.
