Kendrapara, (Reporterspen), April 20: The Odisha government suspended Debi Prasad Mishra, the Excise Superintendent of Kendrapara district, on Friday for neglecting his duties. Mishra faces allegations of soliciting bribes in the name of a specific politician.

In a letter, the Excise Department informed that the Governor of Odisha, under the authority granted by clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962, has suspended Mishra.

It’s reported that Tapas Dehury, the Kendrapara Tehsildar, will assume the responsibilities of Excise Superintendent until a new appointment is made.

A recent audio clip surfaced, purportedly featuring Mishra demanding monthly protection money from a liquor vendor, exposing corrupt practices. While Mishra has remained silent regarding the allegations and subsequent action taken against him, Deputy Excise Commissioner Ramchandra Mishra has initiated an investigation.

Ramchandra Mishra stated, “As per the direction of the Excise Commissioner, I am here to investigate the allegation.”

Kendrapara district Collector Surjyawanshi Mayur Vikas confirmed the suspension, stating, “A letter from the department has been received. As per the directions, he has been put under suspension. Kendrapara Tehsildar will be the excise superintendent in-charge until the appointment of a new excise superintendent.”
