Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms coupled with lightning and gusty surface winds across most parts of Odisha over the next five days. According to a special bulletin, a trough extending from east Assam to north Odisha through Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level is contributing to this synoptic situation.

The interaction between middle dry westerly winds and lower-level moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal is creating favorable conditions for thunderstorm activity with lightning, heavy rain, gusty surface winds, and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall across Odisha for the next 4 to 5 days.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and seek safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning strikes. Additionally, urban areas are urged to adhere to traffic advisories.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has also issued a yellow warning for the upcoming days, indicating expected weather conditions. Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, and heavy rainfall are anticipated in some areas of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur within the next 24 hours.

Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph may occur in one or two places in Jajpur and Kendrapada districts during the specified period. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely in some places of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Angul, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Boudh districts by Friday.
