Five youths arrested for alleged gang rape of minor in Odisha’s Berhampur

Berhampur, (Reporterspen), May 8: Five youths have been apprehended in Berhampur City of Odisha’s Ganjam district on charges of gang-raping a minor girl after allegedly drugging her.

The victim, a Plus Two student, was reportedly near the New Bus Stand of the city on May 3 when an acquaintance lured her to his room under false pretenses. There, she was given cold drinks spiked with drugs before being sexually assaulted by him and four others.

Upon returning home, the girl promptly informed her family members about the ordeal, prompting them to file a complaint at the Baidyanathpur Police Station, demanding swift action against the perpetrators.
Responding to the complaint, the police swiftly apprehended the primary suspect and subsequently detained the other four individuals based on information provided by him.

The rape survivor’s statement was recorded, and she underwent a medical examination at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, as mandated by law. Similarly, the arrested suspects also underwent medical tests in accordance with legal requirements.

While investigations into the gang rape case continue, the incident has sent shockwaves through the community in the Silk City of the State.
