Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted Odisha residents to brace for ongoing thunderstorm activity paired with rain and strong winds, which is expected to lower day temperatures by 5-6 degrees Celsius over the next three days.

This weather phenomenon is attributed to the convergence of dry westerly winds with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal. The IMD advises the public to stay updated on weather forecasts and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms to avoid lightning-related hazards. Additionally, motorists are urged to adhere to traffic advisories in urban areas.

An orange warning has been issued for several Odisha districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Nabarangpur, until 8:30 am Wednesday. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds reaching 40-50 kmph, and heavy rainfall. Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh are also likely to encounter thunderstorms with similar weather conditions.

Furthermore, hailstorm warnings have been issued for Angul, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur districts. The remaining parts of the state may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated locations during this period.

The orange warning for thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall, remains in effect for Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj districts for the next 24 hours. Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal may also experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.

On May 9, a yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur districts, predicting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, and heavy rainfall.
