Odisha poll watch: CEO Nikunj Dhal reveals massive Rs 118.65 cr seizure

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), April 18: State Election Officer Nikunj Bihari Dhal has declared that elections for 28 Assembly seats in the Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Berhampur parliamentary regions are scheduled for May 13. Dhal underscored the significant participation of women voters in these four parliamentary constituencies, estimating a total of 6,284,649 eligible voters to engage in the electoral process.

In a bid to ensure equitable conduct, the Chief Electoral Officer has dispatched three observers to supervise the entire election proceedings, with a particular focus on monitoring candidate expenditures. Dhal reiterated their dedication to promptly addressing any grievances, disclosing that out of 587 complaints registered through the C Vigil app regarding these parliamentary constituencies, 582 have already been resolved, predominantly revolving around issues such as posters and banners.

Moreover, since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, authorities have confiscated various items valued at Rs 118.65 crore. This seizure encompasses cash amounting to Rs 2.7 crore, drugs valued at Rs 18.19 crore, marijuana and brown sugar totaling Rs 43.69 crore, and gold worth Rs 7.17 crore.
