Dhenkanal, (Reporterspen) April 29: In a daring raid conducted by the Kamakhyanagar police in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, a notorious criminal with over 18 cases against him was apprehended around 5:30 am on Monday after an exchange of fire.

Identified as Subash Khuntia alias Bubuna (30), the criminal was cornered by law enforcement following specific intelligence. The Kamakhyanagar police received information that Khuntia and his gang were gathering in the Khuntaposi jungle near Ramiala River, plotting extortion using firearms and explosives.
Acting swiftly, the police raided the location early Monday morning.

Upon their approach, the criminals launched bombs at the police, prompting a controlled response in self-defence, including firing two rounds. Despite resistance, the police managed to arrest Khuntia and seize weapons and incriminating evidence from the scene, including a country-made pistol, live ammunition, fired cases, cash, a crude bomb, and a machete.

While Khuntia sustained injuries during the exchange, he is currently receiving medical treatment at the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Unfortunately, two other criminals managed to escape the scene, prompting ongoing efforts by law enforcement to capture them.

Additionally, one police constable sustained minor injuries during the operation and is undergoing treatment. The successful apprehension of Khuntia underscores the dedication and vigilance of Odisha’s law enforcement agencies in combating criminal activities in the region.
