Jharsuguda, (Reporterspen), April 16: An undertrial prisoner housed in Jharsuguda Sub-Jail attempted suicide on Tuesday by jumping from the third floor of the Jharsuguda District Court building.

The prisoner, identified as Sanatan Singh, faced charges of molestation and was scheduled for a court appearance on the day of the incident. Despite efforts by present lawyers to intervene, Singh managed to overpower them and made the attempt on his life. He sustained injuries from the fall and was promptly taken to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for medical treatment.

Singh had been evading authorities for about a year after being accused of molesting a minor in the Junadihi region of the district in 2022. He was apprehended by Belapahada police in 2023 and subsequently brought before the court for legal proceedings.
