Malkangiri, (Reporterspen), April 24: In anticipation of the upcoming elections in Odisha, Malkangiri police made a significant seizure of Rs 30 lakh unaccounted cash from a car near Chalanguda, adjacent to the Chhattisgarh border.

Sources reveal that law enforcement officers discovered the substantial sum during routine vehicle inspections as the car entered Odisha from Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday evening. The two individuals traveling in the car were detained as they failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the cash.

An ongoing investigation seeks to ascertain the source and intended use of the seized funds.

This incident follows a previous cash seizure earlier this month, wherein Rs 55 lakh was confiscated from a car in Sonepur district, marking the largest cash haul in a single operation leading up to the concurrent Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.

Remarkably, inducements valued at Rs 118.65 crore have been intercepted in the state between March 1 and April 17. This includes Rs 2.7 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 18.19 crore, drugs and narcotics amounting to Rs 43.69 crore, precious metals valued at Rs 7.17 crore, and other miscellaneous items and freebies totaling Rs 47.44 crore.
